Silvertone Model 15 Bakelite Radio (1951)
No, the maroon color is not original. If you look closely, you
can see tiny amounts of paint around the edge of the clear dial cover, where somebody did a less-than-perfect masking job.
The original color is plain old brown, as you can see by
inspecting the knobs or the cabinet back.
This radio was a prop
in the Northern Exposure TV show, and I guess the set decorator wanted
something a little snappier looking than the usual brown.
I know, you're saying "The horror!
The horror!" Perhaps one day I'll get around to removing the gaudy
stage makeup. On the other hand, the paint job does reflect this set's interesting history as part of a television show.
