Radio News Abox Ad: Aug. 1928

This advertisement from the August, 1928 Radio News magazine shows the Abox A.C. converter, manufactured by the Abox Company of Chicago, Illinois.

The earliest consumer radios were battery-powered and typically required two batteries, an A battery to heat the tube filaments, and a B battery to power the rest of the radio. Battery replacers of this type were very popular, replacing the batteries of the time, which were bulky, expensive, and contained caustic chemicals. The project area of our website provides plans for building an inexpensive, modern battery eliminator.
