Cavalier Plastic Radio (1950s)

I like the looks of this little 1950s radio, with its big bugeye" dials, louvered front, and gently rounded corners. The green color is also unusual. Of the 200-odd radios pictured in this website, only a handful are a true green.

I have never heard of the Cavalier brand before. Perhaps it's a no-name brand like my little Graymark.

Inside the cabinet is an inexpensive All American Five receiver, with a loud hum indicating a defective filter capacitor in the power supply. That's an easy fix, but this one will have to wait a while for repairs. I have a number of more interesting projects already in the works. In the meantime, this cute green set makes a nice accent piece in any a grouping of collectible radios.
